GENERAL SYMPTOMS OF THE DISEASES:

1. 1. High cholesterol levels have been shown to be associated with an increased risk of coronary artery diseases and stroke because of atherosclerosis.
2. 2. Cholesterol is a substance called lipid. It is used in the manufacture of cell walls and in the production of bile acids and hormones. Most of the bodys supply of cholesterol is produced in the liver, but some cholesterol in the body can be affected by diet and other lifestyle factors.
3. 3. Cholesterol is carried in the bloodstream in the form of lipid-protein molecules known as lipoproteins. LDLs carry larger amounts of cholesterol than HDLs and deposit the cholesterol around the body. A high level of LDLs in the blood increases the risk of arterial disease. The reason is that excess LDLs form fatty deposits on the walls of arteries. As these deposits grow, they limit blood flow and can cause the formation of clots that block the vessels. HDLs pick up free molecules of cholesterol and return them to the liver to be broken down. A high level of HDLs in the blood thus protects against arterial disease.
